Extended-Reality (XR) Solutions in Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders

9th March 2023 @ 10:45 AM EDT

Extended Reality (XR) is a powerful technology that can be used anywhere, at any time. Patients can get therapy through XR technologies but also have a more immersive interaction with their providers on site and remotely. For example, VR-based therapy has many applications in mental health; from exposure therapy to help people overcome their fears by gradually exposing themselves in a controlled and safe environment, to treating withdrawal symptoms for patients with substance use disorders, among other use cases.

Besides the benefits, there are some barriers as these technologies are very expensive and regulations are not clear. What can we expect from XR solutions in mental health and substance use disorders? How can we drive adoption? Join this session to discuss:

  • The potential for Extended Reality (XR) solutions in mental health and substance use disorders. What does the market look like? What has proven efficient so far? What are the untapped opportunities?
  • VR as a concept: SaMD vs. SiMD. How are VR-based digital solutions regulated? When are they considered to be a SaMD vs. a Software in Medical Device (SiMD). What are the implications?
  • Bringing XR for mental health patients to the ‘real reality’.  These solutions are very expensive and adoption is challenging.  How to make XR solutions accessible to all patients? Who pays for it? What are the limitations of VR in mental health and substance use disorders?
  • Raising healthcare professionals’ (HCPs) awareness and education. How to educate and train healthcare professionals to use XR technologies? How to identify and overcome their pain points? How to integrate the solution into the workflows and protocols?

We would like to remind you that our meetings are small and intimate sessions with a limited number of seats available, therefore we rely on your attendance and participation to ensure a high quality and valuable meeting for all. If you are confirmed for this meeting we ask if you can please ensure your attendance on the day.
