The Future of Skin - Series 1 - The Patient Voice

Focus Group

HealthXL virtual lunches convene small groups of thought leads and clients to share insights on key digital health issues. We welcome new experts and clients to join or host their own meetings. If you are interested in this topic, we would love to hear from you.

Through focus groups, we bring together 6-10 thought leaders and industry stakeholders in a series of virtual meetings to collaborate around a defined topic. Each meeting gives the group the opportunity to examine, analyze and collaborate with one another around a digital health topic as well as produce a shareable result.

The Future of Skin focus group aims to better understand the challenges and opportunities to enable awareness, improve diagnosis, and support patients with skin cancer, eczema, psoriasis and related comorbidities. In this series of meetings over 6 months, we will explore gaps from the point of view of a patient, a dermatologist, and have this inform design principles for creators of digital health products that address these populations.

Did you know that people with psoriasis were once considered outcasts because of their skin issues? It’s true. And would you believe that urine was used as a treatment in ancient times? That’s true, too.

Comparing treatments and dealing with feelings are part and parcel of the everyday lives of patients with skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, etc. This session attempts to understand what aspects of the management of their skin conditions patients find most challenging and frustrating, what areas need action and innovation, and where patients are looking for such guidance.

1. Objective:

To better understand the challenges and opportunities to enable awareness, improve diagnosis, and support patients with skin cancer, eczema, psoriasis and related comorbidities.

2. Frequency and format:

Monthly meetings over a 6 month period.

3. Output:

A white paper to be shared with patient communities, pharma, digital health entrepreneurs, etc on best practices and gaps/ needs analysis.
